Wow, I got lots of responses. I figured I would. Michelle told me there were, so I came back and read them. I notice nobody actually called or emailed, despite some people saying they would, so I could just go on pretending you all realized I was right and cancelled the project. But no, I'm now here reminding you all of the harsh realities.
Could we pull this project off without turning 500 Park Avenue into a warzone? Possibly. Should we? I doubt it. I just read all sorts of arguments over how we can still do this. I saw no reasons WHY we should still do this. Because people have already put lots of work into it? I put in at least as much as anybody, if not more. Because Emily won't do another family project if we don't do this one? Perhaps we shouldn't do "family projects". They cause family contention. Because this is something unique that only our family does? There may be a reason why nobody else tries to do stuff like this.
If people are really afraid to see all their hard work go to waste, maybe we could do a talent show or something. Emily can read us a script, Mom can show us some costumes, Eric can show us some animation, and so on. If we really want to do a worthwhile project, why not some good old-fashioned community service? Is there a food pantry or anything like that in McMinnville? Fences that need painted? There are lots of options still available to us. We don't have to do this one just because Eric suggested it six months ago.

I thought we wanted to do this project so that we would have a family movie with the grandkids, made at our reunion, something we could have to remember it by, something that would become a family treasure. That was WHY we were going to make the movie.
So we videotape people doing normal stuff. Then you can remember what they're really like, and not just how they look in a cape and pretending to fly. Or we could take pictures. Or make a family scrapbook. Or videotape interviews with everyone. Or if you have to have acting, we've generally been successful with impromptu skits. We could play lizard tag. Or sardines. Or fruitbasket upset. Or water balloons. Or Monopoly. Or Locomotion memory. Or Scrabble. Or Boggle. Or Uno. Or Settlers of Cataan (sp?). Or a puppet show. (That one could even use your script.) Or we could go on a picnic. Or on a nature walk.
Any of these suggestions would meet those requirements, would they not?
Emily I think your reason for the movie is very valid. Another reason to do this is in honor of your father. Movie making has been his hobby for 45 years. It makes him proud to think that this legacy is passed on to his children and grandchildren. We can do this without contention if we remember that we're here to have fun and be together. I don't know why you don't want to do this, Jared. If you don't want to do anything more than your little scene, that's fine. That scene can even be filmed the day ahead. As for your other ideas we will be doing several of them, also. We'll film some of the games and other activities and even have a talent show, where everyone can share their other talents. Please cooperate, everyone else wants to do this. Clarissa gets kind of wishy-washy but when we talk about it she has lots of fun ideas.
