We often use a dictionary in fourth grade. In fact, my students are assigned to look up words. I have had them look up "gross" and other such words. Tomorrows words will come from our reading assignment in Pollyanna. Words such as: remonstrances, ardor, efface, and ensconced.
Last night I was watching "Pirates" and Captain Jack Sparrow said one of my favorite words from studying for the GRE... superfluous which, according to Webster's Dictionary, means: Being more than is wanted; redundant; unnecessary.
