'Tis the Season...

I was just thinking about Christmas.  Wondering what kinds of presents I'll give people, stuff like that.  No, I'm not asking for Christmas lists here.  Actually, I'm wondering what kind of travel plans people are making.  We haven't made any yet, so if someone were to decide they wanted to come to Houston for Christmas or even Thanksgiving, well, you can.  If you let us know that's what you're planning.  Because if we're not expecting anyone, we'll likely head off to Dallas just like we normally do.  But since we haven't made our plans yet - we're notoriously slow with finalizing travel plans - you can still influence our decisions at this point.  If someone wants us, or more likely just me, to come to you, that may also be a discussable possibility.  So tell me... who's visiting whom this year?

D.C. is also a wonderful place to visit in the holidays.

sorry boys, Tawnia and I have already purchased our plane tickets back to Oregon for our insanely short Christmas break. Most school breaks are a full two weeks (16 days, including weekends) and ours is a pathetic 11 days. I know it's still a break, but our first day back is January 2nd.

Emily bought her ticket home, too. She'll be here from Dec 16th to Jan 9th for her extremely long Christmas break. Thanksgiving is just too short and we're broke, but NEXT Christmas we plan on spending with Jared so we can be there for Brooke's baptism, and celebrate my retirement. We also plan on going back to D.C. that spring or summer.

Just out of curiosity, Jared, why on earth would it be "just you" to travel for the holidays? I mean, we like you-singular, but for the holidays and any other travel besides business travel, we'd expect you-plural: Jared, Michelle, Brooke, and Bryan. Yes, we know it's more expensive that way, but still ...

And you and Michelle and the kids do need to come to DC at least once - it's the national capitol. Even if the federal government's behavior in recent years has made you jaded and just generally want to hurl (yesterday was such a day for me), there are still a lot of things to see and do in this area.

So I've heard!

sorry boys

No need to apologize, Mindy. I was asking so I would know what your plans are, not to convince anyone to come here.

but NEXT Christmas

This one I knew already. Thanks though!

Just out of curiosity, Jared...

Okay... first of all, I said we had not made any plans yet. I mention the likelihood of just me traveling because it's not just "more expensive", it's FOUR TIMES as expensive. And the way prices get hiked around the holidays, that translates into some serious bucks, especially considering we already flew to Oregon this year. So if you think we should all come on any non-business trip, well, it'd be a looooong time before you see any of us. If I were you, I'd take what I can get.

And yes, I would like to visit DC sometime. I'd like even more to visit DC with Michelle and Brooke and Bryan. Long family vacations like that require much planning and money, though, so please be patient with us.

Like Mom said, I'm going to Oregon for Christmas; I bought the tickets about a month and a half ago. Of course, I probably won't be going back to the West Coast until at least next Christmas. And I'm not flying anywhere for Thanksgiving. Trina said I could see her, as long as I got my own ride to and from D. C.
